Best Mac and Cheese
It seems that no matter where you live, there are two schools of mac and cheese lovers: those who like the crunchy top, and those for whom golden brown bread crumbs taint the tender, cheesy noodles. Fortunately, there are plenty of places in this great epicurean city for both sides. Some macs come with figs, some with bacon, some with nothing other than a gooey cheese sauce cooked to perfection. Whether you like your mac with whole wheat elbows or short, chubby radiatori noodles, you can get your fix here. East Village
Though the boundaries of this downtown neighb are often debated, it is one chockablock with culture and New York 'tude. This is where the Tompkins Square Riots occurred, where Allen Ginsberg lived, and–as everyone likes to say–it is the birthplace of punk rock. Though the neighborhood has changed dramatically since the time of its inception, it still offers something for everyone, whether you're looking for a quaint sidewalk cafe on Avenue A or a manicure and a martini at the same time.
