For a little nature without leaving the city, head to the Loeb Boathouse on the east side of Central Park. A rowboat rental will cost you $12/hour, and $3 every fifteen minutes thereafter. There's a $20 refundable deposit, so don't forget to stop by the ATM. Take your vessel out for a spin and take in the beautiful man-made lake. The water is surrounded by so many trees and rocks, you may just forget you're in New York. For a truly romantic boat ride, skip dinner at the boathouse and pack a picnic. Pull off to the side, set down the oars, and pop open that merlot (or white zinfandel, as the case may be). If actually packing the picnic proves too much, stop by the 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe. The younger, hipper sibling of The Central Park Boathouse, the Boat Basin Cafe offers bugers and sandwiches, as well as a selection of soups, salads, and entrees, that, in my humble opinion, are better than those of the Boathouse and far cheaper. Sail on!
