S'MAC

When this East Village eatery opened in 2006, the lines were out the door. They were so busy, that they were only open from 6-10pm, in order to spend the day preparing enough mac and cheese. Now that they're open all day, everyone can get their fix of the delicious dish.

It comes in three sizes–Nosh, Major Munch and Mongo–and with a wide variety of flavors. Not only does the mac come with optional whole wheat pasta and bread crumbs, but the owners, husband and wife team Sarita & Caesar Ekya and the rest of their hard-working staff are incredibly patient and friendly.

The more mild choices include All-American, Four Cheese, and Cheeseburger. More refined palettes will go ape for the Goat Cheese, with sauteed spinach, kalamata olives, and roasted garlic, the Brie, with roasted figs, roasted shiitake mushrooms and fresh rosemary, and the Garden (Lite)–Lite Cheddar, Parmesan, roasted cauliflower and portobello mushrooms, roasted garlic, broccoli and scallions.

Patrons also have the option of building their own macs, choosing from a list of mix-ins that includes proteins like andoullie sausage and tuna, and vegetables–roasted tomatoes, broccoli, spinach with garlic, etc.
