The Strand

Though this bookstore's canvas totes have become nearly as ubiquitous as Uggs, the Strand is still the spot for those seeking an enormous selection of discounted used and new books as well as rare and collectible reads. A recent trip to the beloved literary emporium had us leaving with a 25% off copy of Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and one of Hal and Conn Iggulden's The Dangerous Book for Boys. Be prepared to spend some serious time here; the red awning boats 18 miles of books, and they're not making it up.

828 Broadway at 12th St; 212-473-1452; 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, W to 14th St–Union Sq.
